Urdaneta City Fiesta 2024 kicks off with a grand parade and vibrant celebrations

The week-long City Fiesta of Urdaneta officially began on December 1, 2024 with a grand parade that brought together city officials, dignitaries, government employees, schools, and the Urdanetanian community in a spirited display of unity and pride.

Leading the parade was Hon. Julio “Rammy” F. Parayno III, Mayor of Urdaneta, alongside Senator Imee Marcos, who expressed her solidarity with the city’s celebration of its achievements and rich heritage, and Committee Chairman of the City Fiesta, Julio Onofre “Poy” Parayno V in full support.

Among the participants were the officials and employees of Urdaneta City University (UCU), proudly representing their institution.

A Day of Celebration and Advocacy

The parade was followed by a World AIDS Day program, raising awareness and showing support for those affected by AIDS-related diseases. Observed annually every December 1, World AIDS Day, established in 1988, was the first-ever global health day, emphasizing the importance of compassion and action in addressing global health challenges.

Adding excitement to the first day’s activities was the HYPE RIDES car show, featuring the thrilling presence of Boss R and Boss Toyo. The event celebrated the passion for engines and the camaraderie of the automotive community, drawing crowds of enthusiasts.

Cultural Highlights: Street Dancing and Festival Dance Showdown

One of the fiesta’s most anticipated events, the Street Dancing and Festival Dance Showdown, showcased the creativity and cultural pride of Urdaneta. Participating schools from different barangays brought the streets to life with colorful costumes and intricate choreography.

Contingent 3 emerged as the champion for both the Street Parade and the Festival Dance Showdown, also bagging the award for Best in Production. Contingent 4 was named First Runner-Up and won the award for Best in Costume, while Contingent 5 secured the Second Runner-Up position in both categories.

The performances highlighted the participants' dedication to preserving Urdaneta’s cultural heritage, earning cheers and applause from spectators.

Gratitude and Faith at the Center

As the festivities unfolded, an Ecumenical Celebration brought the first day to a solemn and meaningful close. Mayor Parayno expressed his gratitude, saying, “Mapalad ang siyudad ng Urdaneta,” while emphasizing the importance of starting the celebrations with thanksgiving to God.

“Dapat ang Diyos ay nangunguna sa kapiyestahan. Dapat magsisimula pa lang ang kapiyestahan, nagpapasalamat na tayo,” the mayor stated, urging the community to sustain the blessings Urdaneta enjoys by working together and fulfilling their roles as responsible citizens.

The ecumenical service united various religious groups in prayer and highlighted the shared values of gratitude, faith, and community.

Looking Ahead

The City Fiesta is off to a resounding start, promising more engaging and inspiring events in the days to come. With the spirit of unity and celebration filling the air, the people of Urdaneta continue to honor their heritage and look forward to a week of festivities that reflect the city's vibrant culture and enduring faith.
