The Office of External Affairs and Linkages conducted a seminar to align engineering, auxiliary, and general services units with global university ranking standards at the University Cafeteria, June 4.
The session, titled “Optimizing Engineering Management, Auxiliary, and General Services for Internationalization and Global University Rankings,” aimed to prepare operational departments for international assessments such as the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) and Times Higher Education (THE).
Dr. Sonny Soriano, Director of the Office of External Affairs and Linkages, led the lecture, highlighting the evolving role of support services in meeting global demands.
He discussed infrastructure readiness, alignment of facilities with internationalization strategies, integration of sustainability and SDGs, green building practices, and global best practices in campus resource management.
“Internationalization is not just about sending students abroad or partnering with foreign universities,” Soriano said.
“It’s about making sure that our campus facilities, services, and systems meet global standards of excellence and sustainability.”
Engr. Dennis Pascua, Acting Head of Engineering Management and Auxiliary Services, emphasized the relevance of the seminar to their ongoing infrastructure projects.
“Napapanahon ang ganitong training. As we aim to improve UCU’s global standing, kailangan din naming i-upgrade ang aming engineering plans at facility management systems,” Pascua said.
He added that their unit is enhancing collaboration with academic and administrative offices to create more strategic, energy-efficient, and future-ready infrastructure.
Sonny Manilay, Head of General Services, underscored the impact of logistics and frontline operations in shaping the university’s global image.
“Maraming hindi nakakaalam, pero malaki ang impact ng general services sa image ng university,” he said.
He also noted that the training clarified how their work supports sustainability goals and aligns with international benchmarks.#
