Urdaneta City University (UCU) formalized a strategic academic partnership with Northwestern University (NWU) and Universitas Persada Indonesia (UPI) on June 13, 2025, in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
The partnership was sealed during the “Strengthening ASEAN Academic Collaboration” forum held at the NWU International House Function Hall.
The event gathered academic leaders from selected Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Region 1.
Commission on Higher Education Regional Director Dr. Christine Nabor-Ferrer headlined the forum and shared insights on cross-border education, regional integration, and institutional synergy.
UCU was represented by Dr. Sonny Soriano, Director for External Affairs and Linkages, along with Prof. Lourdes Cruz and Prof. Raymund Fernandez from the College of Business, Management, and Accountancy.
Their participation affirmed UCU’s commitment to Internationalization (IZN) and its pursuit of global and regional academic engagement.
“This partnership underscores our shared vision of nurturing globally competitive graduates through collaborative teaching, research, and cultural exchange,” said Dr. Soriano.
He emphasized that linkages with NWU and UPI will enrich academic experiences for both students and faculty.
The tripartite agreement includes joint academic programs, faculty and student exchanges, collaborative research, and ASEAN cultural immersion activities.
The forum also facilitated discussions on curriculum internationalization and digital learning innovations.
NWU officials expressed support for expanding ASEAN academic networks and building a regional learning environment that integrates global excellence.
The UCU-NWU-UPI partnership advances UCU’s IZN goals and strengthens its role in shaping Southeast Asia’s higher education landscape.#
